Initial Arbourthorne experience

After an introductory session outlining the broad aspects of the 'Prasie Pods' programme, it was beneficial to gain a first impression of the site and surrounding locale. We set out on a recky of the area, in order to ascertain whether there were any distinctive points or atributes which gave the area a 'sense of place' within the east side of Sheffield.

We entered the Heeley area from Queens Road, walked up the hill through the surrounding neighbourhood and carried on along East Bank Road. We recorded the feel of the area and any landmark features. Our first impression of the school, was that it could be integrated into the existing fabric of the community, due to its central location amid the surrounding housing.

After viewing the school, it became apparent that the buildings location benefits from stunning views across the valley towards the city centre and the Peak District. However these vistas and 'framed views' are limited to the entrance side with a densly populated built environment.

On leaving the site we headed down towards the Park Grange Road tram line, in the process we passed the Local nursery and Catholic Church. As we got closer to Sheffield City Centre, we came across Norfolk Park Primary School.
